About the Program

The Penn Summer High School Programs can provides outstanding academic challenge in an Ivy League environment. Our programs are built around courses taught by Penn faculty, scholars, and distinguished outside experts. With small class sizes—usually between 15 and 20 students—you can be sure of getting the individualized attention you deserve. The confidence you gain will help you get more out of your freshman year in college.

Our programs are open to both residential and commuting students and are designed to let you fully experience the university environment. This helps you understand not only the academic challenges but also the social and cultural differences you will face in college. You will meet other talented and highly motivated high school students and build lasting relationships.

Science!

As a student in our programs you can spend your free time participating in special activities, including midnight movies, intramural sports, whitewater rafting, Philadelphia tours, or trips to local amusement parks. There are also academically based extracurricular activities such as SAT preparation workshops, a college writing series, and presentations about college admissions procedures. From Penn’s campus, Philadelphia’s historic sites can be reached in minutes. New York and Washington are just hours away by bus or by Amtrak trains. The Penn campus itself offers an enormous array of lectures, panels, and musical and dramatic performances. It has the country’s largest openstack library, state-of-the-art research labs, and world-class museums. No matter what your interests are, there is always something to do at Penn.
