Students spent the morning working in the lab. They were given a sample of human hair and were required to deduce, given four suspects, which of their peers had donated that sample. Students also looked at animal hairs (rabbit, horse, cat, and dog) as well as fibers (cotton, nylon, wool, and polyester).

They viewed various medical anomalies including such specimens as the Soap Woman, the conjoined twins, megacolon, and the Giant man. To view the Mütter online site you can go to: http://www.collphyphil.org/mutter.asp
Forensic Anthropology; Aging and Sexing
Page Selinsky spoke to students today about the way in which anthropologists can identify the sex and the age of a victim using skeletal remains.
Forensic Entomology in the Lab
The Forensic class spent most of today in the lab. Students examined the different stages of a fly’s life (larva, also known as maggot, pupa, and adult fly) to determine species. Students then studied preserved and living maggots. Using this information, the class then tackled cases where they were required to use their knowledge to figure out a time frame for when a victim could have died.
I uploaded the images from today onto the Forensic Photos section. Check them out.
